I've had issues with being able to rest, and I think I've found a new way to look at it.

If you treat the different modes and mindsets you can be in as separate people, you see there's a Severance issue where, say, the working you and the resting you have different qualities of life.

So even if you take a long vacation, the working you wasn't present for any of it, so it feels like you didn't get any rest when you get back to work.

So you have to consciously "wake up" the working you, along with the other yous, during rest rather than have a resting you that absorbs all of it.

So I can rest the working me by, say, responding to some low-stress emails over the week for an hour or two on my own time, rather than entirely shutting off that part of my brain until Monday when it may become stressful again.

I think the biggest realization is actually trying to avoid having a resting me at all, so more can be distributed to the other mes, and instead trying to figure out what having each of the other mes resting actually looks like.
